BIOGRAPHY
Evan Kopiak is a strategic and meticulous litigator with a growing reputation for effective advocacy in insurance defence and commercial litigation. A partner at BPB LLP since January 1, 2025, Evan acts for insurers, professionals, and corporate clients in a range of complex matters, including motor vehicle accident claims, personal injury, construction disputes, professional negligence, and subrogated losses involving fire, water, and technical failures.
He is particularly experienced in construction litigation involving residential, corporate, and commercial developments, often navigating intricate technical and engineering issues. Evan is also known for his contributions to significant appellate work, including his involvement in Rankin’s Garage & Sales v. J.J., where he helped prepare arguments for the Supreme Court of Canada.
Evan brings a continuous improvement mindset to his legal practice, guided by the Japanese principle of Kaizen. This commitment shapes his approach to client service: thoughtful, clear, and adaptive to evolving needs. He builds early rapport with clients and delivers strategic counsel grounded in empathy, precision, and practical outcomes.
Beyond his litigation work, Evan is an active mentor to junior lawyers and articling students. He is a member of the Toronto Lawyers Association and contributes to charitable causes with his wife.
Evan’s creativity also flourishes outside the office—he’s an accomplished home chef with a deep passion for Japanese cuisine and global gastronomy. He and his wife enjoy exploring culinary traditions at home and abroad, most recently fulfilling a long-awaited dream of travelling to Japan in 2024.
