Articling Program

We believe that the best training for a lawyer is through hands on training. The articling program at Benson Percival Brown LLP focuses upon the practical aspects of a litigation practice.

As an articling student, you will have an opportunity to assist partners and associates in all stages of a litigation file, including the drafting of pleadings, affidavits, motion materials, factums and research memorandums. It is equally important for our articling students to be exposed to various forms of alternate dispute resolution, including mediation, settlement conferences and arbitration.

Our articling students routinely attend on motions, and will have an opportunity to accompany lawyers to examinations for discovery, pre-trial conferences and trials. Articling students are also given the responsibility of conducting small claims court trials.

There is no formal mentorship program at Benson Percival Brown LLP, as we firmly believe in an open door policy which allows our students to seek assistance from all of our lawyers. In addition to the guidance available through this policy, feedback is provided during the articling term in order to provide our students with an awareness of their progress. We strive to help our students gain the greatest possible amount of knowledge and experience while articling at our firm.

Benson Percival Brown LLP hires two articling students each year. We do not have a summer student program. The start times for articling are negotiable to allow the firm the maximum student coverage as we rely heavily on the fine work of our students. We cannot guarantee hire-back because of the size of our firm, but generally, new lawyers, where possible, are hired from within the articling program. Every partner at the firm started here as an articling student.

Should you wish to apply for an articling position, please direct all applications, including your resume, transcripts and reference letters to Jiku Elamathail, Articling Principal by e-mail to articling@bensonpercival.com. Application deadline for the 2025/26 articling term has closed.
